Meya Case is a Yukon High School senior girls basketball player. The basketball season has been heavily affected due to COVID-19.
“You never know if the games are promised, and what I mean is will they get canceled and not be postponed,” Case said.
Case is one of many basketball players who have faced many challenges throughout their basketball career.
“When I broke my ankle my junior year, it was very crushing and a hard pill to digest,” Case said. “Throughout my healing process I learned so much, it was like I wanted it more, and moving forward I would be more careful and take nothing for granted.”
Athletes have to face a lot of challenges to succeed in their career and accomplish all of their goals.
The team has had to find new ways to work together with the changes that came with COVID-19.
“It brought us closer,” Case said. “We all know it’s hard, but it’s like we learned to love it. We talk about staying positive and there’s a reason for everything and it brought us so close. We have sisterhood Wednesday and Thursday where we share our favorite quotes and explain why it’s important to us. I can say I definitely know the girls well.”
Hope for the team’s success is still high, and they want to compete as much as they are able to.
“Our future goal is to stay close and win every game we can,” Case said. “When the season is over we look back and they can say and I can say all the struggles were worth it because we did it all together.”
Case plans to continue her basketball career when she gets out of high school. She has gone on college visits and is working towards a college scholarship.
“I want to play either at the Air Force Academy, a christan school or this school I’ve been talking to in Arkansas,” Case said.
