Encanto: the movie enhanced by TikTok
The Disney movie “Encanto” came out in late 2021. The movie has a 4.4 of 5 rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is based in Colombia where the Madrigal family is given a miracle. Out of 44 soundtracks, one of the top songs “We don’t talk about Bruno” has blown up over many media platforms such as TikTok.
Every member of the Madrigal family has their own power, but in the movie, they call them gifts. Abuela Alma Madrigal (María Cecilia Botero) is given the miracle after her husband sacrifices himself to the villain. Abuela has triplets right before the passing of her husband. Pepas’s (Carolina Gaitán) gift is that she can control the weather with her emotions, Bruno’s (John Leguizamo) gift is he can see the future, and Julieta’s (Angie Cepeda) is that she can heal people with a single meal.
Pepa and Julieta get married and both have three kids. Pepa’s kids are Dolores (Adassa) who can hear from miles away, Camilo ( Rhenzy Feliz) has the ability to shapeshift, and Antonio (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) who can understand animals. Julieta’s kids are Isabela (Diane Guerrero) who can make flowers bloom, Luisa (Jessica Darrow) who has the gift of super strength and Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz) is the main character of the whole movie because she didn’t get a gift like the rest of her family. Dolores is my favorite character overall. She has an amazing attitude and her gift is very useful. Abuela is my least favorite character. She treated Bruno like he was the problem and looked down on Mirabel for not getting a gift which wasn’t her fault. She also used everyone for their gifts and never treated them like family till the very end.
Brunos whole family blamed him for everything bad in his visions. I feel that Bruno was judged badly and he was just telling everyone what would happen and when it did happen they have no reason to blame him. One of the top-rated songs in “Encanto” is “We don’t talk about Bruno” which has gotten over one billion views from being featured in multiple TikTok trends. Even though “We don’t talk about Bruno” is such a big success, it could have been an even bigger success if Disney put it up for an oscar. The article “‘Encanto’s’ ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ Is Topping the Charts. So Why Didn’t Disney Submit It for Oscars?” states that “the writer of the song has already submitted two songs to the Oscars and in the rules, only two songs for each movie or writer can be submitted. This makes it not Disney’s fault for not putting it up for an Oscar.”
Every character goes through their own problems. I have a lot in common with Luisa and her song “Under pressure.”With Luisa being the middle child, I feel the song doesn’t go with her as she is saying that they give her all the responsibilities, which in most cases is given to the oldest. I also can feel the emotion when Isabela says her life isn’t as perfect as everyone thinks. This magical family comes to see that they aren’t perfect and never will be. This message is heartwarming and can be used in everyday life. The song “We don’t talk about Bruno” has been all over TikTok and has over one billion views. This fictional family has been through a lot and deserves its rating. Overall a great movie that has a great message.
