Opinion: 2023: A Great Year for Marvel
With 2022 on its way out, 2023 seems promising for the Marvel franchise. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has captured the hearts and minds of its audience. IMDb Pro data showed that of all 30 released movies, Marvel has made a total of 25+ billion dollars. That makes them the current title holders for the biggest movie franchise ever.
2022 saw success for Marvel, with both “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” making over $750 billion worldwide according to IMDb Pro. 2022 had some amazing content and others that were subpar, but 2023 has a great lineup of films and TV shows slated for release. My most anticipated projects for 2023 include “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3,” as well as the second season of “Loki.” “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3” is directed by James Gunn, who had directed movies such as “The Suicide Squad,” a very successful film. According to Gunn, this may be the last we will see from the Guardians.
“This is the end of the story,” Gunn said. “I‘m sorry. Some stories have to end. It doesn’t mean everyone dies.”
I am excited about this movie because the trilogy was one of my favorites that Marvel had produced. I love all of the characters and their backgrounds. Judging from the trailer, we may need the tissues ready. There seem to be some emotional scenes and given that it is “The end of the story,” I wouldn’t doubt a few characters end up dying. My prediction is that Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), is going to die because of this quote from the trailer.
“We’ll all fly away together,” Rocket said. “One last time.”
The other project I am looking forward to is the second season of “Loki.” The show dives deeper into Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston), which is one of my favorite characters, as well as other timelines which I find interesting. It also introduced new characters such as Mobius (played by Owen Wilson) and Kang the Conqueror (played by Jonathan Majors). The show is the best Disney+ Marvel show out currently.
Other projects for 2023 include “The Marvels,” “Secret Invasion,” and “Ironheart.” I am excited for all of the MCU projects releasing in 2023, but especially for “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3,” and “Loki.” Overall, I cannot wait to see what Marvel has in store for us in the coming years, and I am excited to see how the projects in 2023 turned out.
