“Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” was released on February 17, 2023. This action movie was directed by Peyton Reed, who directed “Ant-Man” as well as “Ant-Man and The Wasp.” This film follows Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), his daughter Cassie Lang (Kathyrn Newton), his significant other Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfieiffer). Cassie’s experiment ends up dragging all of them into the quantum realm where they realize what Janet had done down there and how the main villain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), has taken the quantum realm as his kingdom.
This movie (as this article is written) is at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a little alarming. I really enjoyed this movie and believe it deserves higher praise. A couple of the strongest parts of this movie are Kang the Conqueror and how truly menacing he is and the bond between Cassie and Scott.
Jonathan Majors’ Kang steals the show. Kang in Marvel is a ruthless evil man and is projected to be the next big bad in the MCU. Putting Majors in this role is excellent casting and seeing him in this movie really gets me excited to see what they will do with this character in the future. His acting is phenomenal. He can make anything seem menacing and frightening, but can also put on an emotional show if needed.
Cassie and Scott’s relationship in this movie really shines. Scott wasn’t able to be there for Cassie while she grew up so it’s easy to see that he is trying his best to make up for the lost time. He would do anything for her, and that shows. In one scene, Scott is surrounded by tons of alternate versions of himself, and the real Scott is trying to grab an energy core in the center of the room. He needed to use the others to help him reach it, but they all had different opinions and views on the situation. Once Scott told the others that Cassie was on the line, they all united to grab it because every single one of them had one common priority, being Cassie.
There are a few things that I didn’t like about the film, like how M.O.D.O.K was wasted and the ending wasn’t the best, but overall I really enjoyed the movie. There wasn’t a scene in the movie that felt slow and I think that’s very important. This movie was a fun action packed movie to watch, whether you are a big marvel fan or not, and it gets you excited for what’s coming in the future of the MCU.
