Streaming Services on the Rise
Many movies would have been box office hits in the theater, but as COVID-19 continues drawing crowds away from Theaters and the fall of cable, studios have had to look in other directions. Streaming sites have gained a large following over the last year and a half like Netflix, Peacock, and HBO Max. Even large studios like Disney and Paramount have started to release their own.
Disney Plus is a collaboration of Disney and other properties owned by Disney like Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic. Disney uses the site to release TV shows that would have aired on cable. Shows like WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki (Coming June 2021). They also have released Movies on Premier Access like Mulan and Raya and the Last Dragon. The reception to Disney Plus has been mostly positive and the site will mostly stay afloat for a long time coming.
HBO Max is another rising star among the rise of streaming sites. With major releases like Zach Synider’s Justice League , Godzilla vs Kong, and Mortal Kombat that were widely accepted by fans. HBO is releasing more than just movies though, they have also put their properties on the site, with names like DC Comics, Cartoon Network, Sesame Street, Adult Swim, Crunchy roll, and Looney Toons.
As Cable falls Hulu has stepped in to cover live sports and other channels strictly on Cable, along with partnering with Disney Plus and ESPN Plus to make an easy bundle to watch all your favorite shows.
Major Movie studios aren’t the only one to capitalize on streaming sites. Apple TV Plus, a streaming site by Apple came on to the scene in late 2019, just in time. Not only do they offer original series like For All Mankind and Golden Globe winner Ted Lasso they also act as a hub to your owned streaming sites like HBO Max, Hulu, Disney Plus and Netflix.
Overall Streaming sites are probably here to stay as they offer a wide variety of TV and Movies. But as theaters reopen after covid who knows if these sites will still stay above water.
