“Outer Banks” is a Netflix original series that was originally released on April 15, 2020. Season three was released on February 23, 2023. This series revolves around 5 teenagers, Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), John B (Chase Stokes), JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow), Kiara Carrera (Madison Bailey),and Pope Heyward (Johnathan Davis) who go on a journey to find the legendary treasure that could’ve led to the disappearance of John B’s father Big John (Charles Halford) who was obsessed with finding it.
The plot of this series develops evenly throughout each episode and has twists that I didn’t see coming. It’s the perfect mix of action and drama. In addition, it can be emotional but adds humor to lighten up the mood.
I love how this series doesn’t just go into the background of one character, but it gives us a taste of every character’s background and story. For example, one can see that the character of JJ has many layers in him due to his background with his father. He genuinely cares for his friends and takes the blame for them throughout the series. He has an adventurous side which sometimes causes the whole gang to fall into trouble, but his overall humor was really exciting to see.
I enjoyed how they focused more on the hunt for the treasure and the pogues trying to find El Dorado, the city of gold. One of my favorite things about season three was being able to watch the pogues go on this incredible journey to find something that they’ve been looking for since season one and seeing them achieve that was incredible.
One of the things that I didn’t like was how the pogues were separated most of the season because they are stronger together. Under the circumstances, if they were all together then things would have been different and easier for them. For example, when the group goes to South America to find El Dorado and the group splits up and John B, Sarah and Big John were looking for the island while JJ, Kieara, Pope and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) were trying to find them. While the pogues are separated they each face different opticals that would’ve been less challenging with bigger numbers.
Outer Banks is one of the best shows that I’ve seen. It’s the perfect mystery and will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. I enjoyed this series and I loved getting to see everyone grow not only as friends but as individuals. Overall, they did a great job with the series and I can’t wait to see where the story leads now that a fourth season is on the way.
