From teaching AP US history to beating The University of Oklahoma with the academic team then back to teaching film studies, teacher and head coach of the academic team Tyler Haisten has put his stamp on not just only the school but also his studentsfor example Junior Maya Ritz.
“He really encourages me to do my best in academic team, to improve and change as it goes on,” Ritz said.
Ritz has been on the academic team for close to 2 years now, joining half way through her freshman year through a referral from a teacher. Ritz believes that Haisten has pushed her and others in all his class through his passion for teaching to be better and achieve the best version of themselves by learning new things. Haistens passion for teaching runs deep and has been his dream, Haisten always liked school and was inspired to be a teacher by his 7th grade US history and geography teacher. Haisten wanted to impact kids the same way his teacher did. Haistens passion for teaching and coaching has allowed his students to succeed and be impacted, so much so that Sophomore Ariana Amasol said it’s noticeable.
“He’s very passionate and driven, He definitely cares a lot about what he does. He’s just really passionate,” Amasol said.
Haisten is very passionate and driven and dedicated to his role and his ability to inspire others. Haisten emphasizes continuous improvement and encouragement, which has positively influenced his students such as Ritz and Amasol. For Haisten, Improvement even means improving himself to master the content he teaches his students to better allow his students to pass
“Every teacher will say they want more of their AP students to pass. I love that and personally want to improve every year. I feel like every summer, I try to take a week to really junker down and improve my craft and mastery of the content that I’m covering. When teaching film studies or APUSH I want to know a lot about it or it just feels like a disservice to my students. But luckily I love these things so it doesn’t feel like a chore,” Haisten said.
