Varsity volleyball team huddles up before their game begins.

The Yukon High School volleyball team had a game on Wednesday, Sept. 14th against Moore High School. The volleyball team is led by Coach Rachel Allred. It was also senior night for the volleyball girls. The fight was strong the whole night as the two teams went back and forth between who was taking the lead at the beginning but after the fourth set Moore took home the victory.

“We started all our seniors and rotated them in and out throughout the game,”Allred said.

The starting lineup consisted of the six seniors on the team, Chloe Armstrong, Avery Dean, Katie Clark, Cassidy Bass, Julia Bales and Abigail Michael. The volleyball girls lost the first set with a score of 25-20.

“It was a great night for the seniors,” Allred said. “All the seniors got lots of playing time and there was a great crowd.”

The volleyball girls made a comeback in the second set with a score of 25-16. This brought them to an overall tie and three sets left to go unless Moore won the next two sets.

“They showed lots of fight throughout the game,” Allred said. “I think they’ve become closer as a team and realized a lot of the talent they have and they work harder in practice.”

The third set ended in a loss for Yukon with a score of 25-17. In previous years the teams would switch between who won and who lost. Moore won the previous season game in 2020 while Yukon won the 2019 Moore game.

“Our biggest challenge has been resetting and now getting down on ourselves after mistakes,” Allred said “We have a tendency to let mistakes hold us back from the next play being too worried about what happened the last play.”

Moore won the last set with a score of 25-18, concluding the game. The team hopes to continue working together and make strong improvements to their team in the future, they would like to make it to state.

“Eyes are always on regional, we have the playoffs on the 12th,” Allred said “Wins and losses don’t really matter until we get to that game, we’re just trying to get better every week building up to the playoffs.”
