Yukon took on Mustang in the first of their two matchups this season but came up short 74-66 in a tough fought game. Sophomore Dylan Snow showed out making not only his season debut, but his Varsity one scoring 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists. “I just went out there and did exactly what the coach has asked me to do in practice,” Snow said.

The rivalry between Yukon and Mustang has been going on since the 1950s’ and Nov. 30 was no different with the high energy in the first of two games against each other in the season. The final score of the game was 74-66, Mustang with the win, but Yukon showed promise for the rest of the season. In every sport, teams practice and come up with certain goals to achieve in the next game to help them win. The goals for this game were provided by senior Lyndon Cox.

“Coach wanted us to focus primarily on three different goals for our first game,” Cox said. “He wanted to make them force up shots off the dribble, everyone to rebound, and to force their best player, Jacobe Johnson to his right.”

They accomplished their goal on forcing shots off the dribble forcing Mustang to shoot a terrible 17% from three, but came up rather short on limiting Johnson and their rebound totals. Mustang out grabbed Yukon on the boards by 8 rebounds, with Mustang having 37 to Yukon’s 29. Lastly, Jacobe had 21 points throughout the entirety of the game, showing why he is Mustang’s best.

Yukon fortunately might have their star player with sophomore Dylan Snow. He impressed everyone in his varsity debut, putting up an impressive collective box score of 19 points, four rebounds and four assists, impacting every part of the game.

“I saw my opportunities in the game and took advantage of them, but I definitely wouldn’t have done as well as I did if it wasn’t for the coaches and my teammates helping me along the way,” Snow said.

Senior Brayden Dutton found himself having a good game as well putting up 15 points, six rebounds and seven assists but thinks he can become more of a lethal player that would take Yukon up a notch.

“I feel like my mid-range game could definitely get better to help me become a better offensive player and would put us in an overall better place to win games, ” Dutton said.

A mustang defender attempts to challenge Dutton into a tough shot with a hand directly in his face, and he puts two more points to be put onto the scoreboard for the Millers. (Landon Thomas)

Yukon’s next opportunity to get a win under their belts will be at Moore on Dec. 7 and looks to be a great matchup for the Millers.
