On Jan. 29 track had their first indoor meet of the season. The meet took place at Oklahoma University in Norman. The meet began with the 4x800m relay which was run by Kayden Chapparo, Max Marler, Austin Miller and Raymen Sanabria. The boys placed 13th out of 23 teams total in this event.
“I’m happy I got to run on Saturday,” sophomore Raymen Sanabria said.
The event was followed by the 60m hurdles run by Phoebie Lewis, Riley Finley and Karis Antwine. Next was the 60m dash run by Ezra Johnson, Benjamin Tess, Karis Antwine and Riley Patton. The mile dash was run by Coy Pope, Avery Stanley, Emily Schneider, Kailan Parks, Nora England and Emma Rouner.
“I am absolutely proud of how the team ran on Saturday. They’re starting in January beyond where we started in March last year which is really good,” coach Rodney Zimmerman said.
The 400m dash was run by Benjamin Tess, Justin Lopez, Riley Patton, Austin Miller, Haley Downing, Audrey Boyd, Keyana Trekell, Jacey Henson and Alyssa Luke. The 800m run was run by Kayden Chapparo who placed second out of 101 runners. The race was also run by Max Marler, Avery Stanley, Emily Schneider, Kailan Parks, Nora England and Emma Rouner.
“My future goals for track are to break the school’s open 400 record. Last year I was only 2 seconds off by the time the season ended,” senior Haley Downing said.
The 200m dash was next run by Ezra Johnson, Haley Downing, Keyana Trekell, Audrey Boyd, Alyssa Luke and Jacey Henson. The 4x400m relay was the last event run, placing ninth out of 29 teams. The 4×400 was run by Raymen Sanabria, Benjamin Tess, Riley Patton and Justin Lopez.
“I am very happy with how I did on Saturday. I ran a 63 second 400 meter which is two seconds faster than I ran last year, that puts me on track to break the school record,” Downing said.
The coaches and athletes have high hopes for the season. They continue to practice and improve with eyes on breaking school records.
“I want to see a 4×8 and a 4×4 qualify for state or even make the podium at state,” Zimmerman said.
